A Historic Barnardo’s Landmark

Queen Victoria House was built in early 1900s as part of the development of the Girls Village Home, an ambitious programme by Dr Thomas Barnardo to provide accommodation for children. Barnardo’s charity are still based within Redbridge today. This building is an example of late Victorian philanthropy, providing stable living environments and education for ‘penniless girls’. The girls acquired skills enabling them to gain useful employment.

A Historic Building Forging a New Legacy

After serving as the Council’s Registry Office until 2017, Queen Victoria House has entered a new chapter. The building has been carefully restored to preserve its character while creating a modern, functional space for today’s community. Many of its original features, from the sweeping staircase to the decorative plaque, have been retained, blending heritage charm with contemporary design. Set within landscaped gardens, the renovation ensures this historic landmark continues to be a place of opportunity and purpose.

From Heritage to Opportunity

Today, Queen Victoria House has been transformed by Redbridge Council into a vibrant Business and Enterprise Hub. This redevelopment brings new life to the historic building, creating high-quality workspaces, meeting areas, and support services for local entrepreneurs. Blending heritage with modern design, QVH is a centre for innovation, collaboration, and business growth in Redbridge.
